Instruction Sheet
1. Open the trunk and remove the trunk
liner from the underside of the trunk lid. Along the drivers’ side, measure
9 – 3/8” from the
tip of the trunk lid where it meets the rear glass back toward the rear of the
car and place a mark with a grease pencil.
Repeat procedure on other side.
See Diagram A on back of sheet.
2. Leaving paper liner on bottom of mounting feet, place
the Sportwing® on the marks made in Step #1, so that as you face the
rear of the car, the front tips of the Sportwing® rests on
these marks. Center the Sportwing®
from left to right along the marks made in Step #1. Using a grease pencil, outline both mounting feet.
3. Set the Sportwing® aside and place the template,
provided, on the drivers’ side outline made in Step #2. When drilling 3/8” hole for wire harness,
drill through the top panel only. We
suggest using a #1 uni-bit for a cleaner cut.
Next, using a 5/32” drill bit, drill through the two spots on the
drivers’ side template (NOTE: when drilling these two fastening
holes, you will need to continue drilling through the secondary panel of the
deck lid). Be careful not to drill
into the rain channel of trunk when drilling through secondary panel. Flip template over for passenger side, only
using fastening holes. Wire harness
hole not needed on passenger side.
4. Open the deck lid and using a 5/8” hole saw, open the 5/32”
pilot holes that you made in the secondary panel to 5/8”. This will give you access for your socket
wrench later on in the installation.
Black hole plugs have been provided to cover these holes upon
finishing. Repeat procedure on other
side.
5. Close the trunk and remove the paper liner from the
bottom of the mounting feet. Feed
the brake light wires through the harness hole that you made in Step #3 (NOTE:
be careful not to crimp the brake light wires as you position the Sportwing®
onto the outline marks made in Step #2).
Press firmly into place.
6. Open the trunk and switch back to the 5/32” drill bit. Holding onto the Sportwing®,
drill up into the bottom of the mounting feet using the mounting holes drilled
in top panel, in Step #3 (NOTE: when drilling, we insist using a
drill stopper to prevent from drilling up through the top of the Sportwing®). Using a ratchet with 5/16” socket, install
mounting screws with washers and tighten firmly (NOTE: be careful not
to over tighten). Use black hole
caps, provided, to cover holes in secondary panel (NOTE: use the more
flexible 5/8” caps for the 5/8” hole that you made in the secondary panel for
the inside most 5/8” hole, as shown in Diagram B on back of sheet). Repeat on other side.
7. Feed the brake light wires of the Sportwing®
towards the drivers side trunk hinge.
Insert the Sportwing® brake light wires into the black
factory wire harness which runs from the deck lid into the inside of the
trunk. Next, run the Sportwing®
brake light wires to the third brake light and using the electrical connectors,
provided, connect the red (hot) wire of the Sportwing® to the
purple and white wire of the plug of the third brake light. Next, connect the black (ground) wire
of the Sportwing® to the black wire. Test your connection by stepping on the brake pedal.
9. Replace the trunk liner and clean up any metal shavings that
might have fallen into the trunk and you are done. If you have any questions, problems or if you would like
information about other quality Sportwing® products, please call the
TOLL FREE number at the top of this sheet.
