Instruction Sheet
1. Starting on the drivers’ side, measure 13
½” from the tip of the deck lid where it meets the rear window, back
towards the rear of the car and place a mark with a grease pencil. See Diagram A on back of sheet for
measurement. Repeat on passenger side.
2. Leaving paper liner on bottom of mounting feet of Sportwing®, place the Sportwing® on the marks made in Step #1 so that as you face the rear of the car, the front tips of the Sportwing® rests on these marks. See Diagram A on back of sheet. Next, center the Sportwing® from left to right. Outline all three mounting feet with a grease pencil.
3. Set the Sportwing® aside and place the smaller
template, provided, on the center post outline made in Step #2. Using a 5/32” drill bit, drill pilot hole
through the spot indicated on the template for center fastening hole.
4. Next, place the larger template, provided, on the passenger
side outline made in Step #2. Using
5/32” drill bit, drill through the three spots on passenger side
template. Two will be for fastening
Sportwing®, the other spot on the template will be for harness wires
of the Sportwing® (NOTE: when drilling fastening holes,
you will need to drill through both panels of the deck lid. When drilling through the secondary panel,
hold deck lid slightly open so you do not drill into the rain channel of the
trunk). Open deck lid and enlarge
the pilot holes in secondary panel only to 5/8” using a 5/8” hole
saw. This will give you access for your
socket wrench later. Black hole caps
have been provided upon finishing.
Next, close the trunk. You will
need to open up the 5/32” harness pilot hole that you made on passenger
side to 3/8” (NOTE: we suggest using a uni-bit for a cleaner cut). Flip template over for drivers’ side. Only using the two fastening holes on
template, the harness hole is not needed on drivers’ side.
5. Close the trunk and remove the paper liner from the bottom
of all three mounting feet. Feed the
brake light wires through the harness hole made in Step #4 (NOTE: be
careful not to crimp the brake light wires as you position the Sportwing®
back onto the outline marks made in Step #2). Press firmly into place.
6. Open the trunk and switch back to the 5/32” drill bit. Drill up into the bottom of the mounting
feet using the five mounting holes drilled in Step #3 and #4 two on each side
and one center post (NOTE: when drilling, we insist using a drill
stopper to prevent from drilling up through the top of the Sportwing®). Install mounting screws with lock washers
using a ratchet with 5/16” socket and tighten firmly. DO NOT OVER TIGHTEN.
Use black hole caps, provided, to cover holes in secondary panel.
7. WIRING INSTRUCTIONS FOR 2000 – 2001 MODELS:
Run the brake light wires down towards the passenger side trunk hinge. Insert the brake light wires inside the ¼”
wire harness, provided and using black electrical tape, tape the harness neatly
along side the factory harness that runs along the trunk hinge (NOTE:
leave enough slack to allow opening and closing of the deck lid). Slightly pull down the trunk cover that
covers the third brake light in the rear window. Remove the three plugs that hold it in place. Run the Sportwing® wires toward
the third brake light using the electrical connectors, provided. Connect the red (hot) wire of the
Sportwing® to the red wire with green stripe of third brake
light. Next, connect the black (ground)
wire to the black wire. Check your
connections by stepping on the brake pedal.
WIRING INSTRUCTIONS FOR 2002 – 2006 MODELS:
Run the brake light wires towards the passenger side trunk hinge. Insert the brake light wires inside the ¼”
wire harness, provided, and using black electrical tape, tape the harness
neatly along side the factory harness that runs along the trunk hinge (NOTE:
leave enough slack to allow opening and closing of the deck lid). Enter inside vehicle rear seat and pry the
plastic cover that covers the third brake light off, cover comes off
easily. Then, disconnect plug from
third brake light as shown in Diagram B below. Notice when you pull cover off, there will be an opening on each
side of inner panel of third brake light housing. Any one of these two openings is where you will pull the harness
wire of the Sportwing® from inside the trunk. See Diagram B below. After running wires along passenger side
trunk hinge, run the Sportwing® harness wires toward the third brake
light in rear window and notice a small hole opening just under third brake
light. See Diagram C below. Fish the harness wires through this hole up
towards the hole in secondary panel of third brake light housing. See Diagram B below. Next, using connectors provided, connect the
red (hot) wire of the Sportwing® to the green wire with red
stripe. Next, connect the black (ground)
wire of the Sportwing® to the black wire. Check connections by stepping on the brake pedal. Replace cover over third brake light.
8. Clean up any metal shavings that may have fallen into the
trunk. If you have any questions,
problems or if you would like information about other quality Sportwing
products, please call the TOLL FREE number at the top of this sheet. Thank you for choosing Dawn Enterprises Inc.
