Instruction Sheet
1. Close trunk. See Diagram A on back of sheet. Along the drivers’ side, measure down 9 ¼” from the tip of the
trunk lid where it meets the rear window glass, back towards the rear of the
car and make a mark with a grease pencil.
Repeat on passenger side.
2. Leaving paper liner on bottom of
mounting feet, place the Sportwing® on the marks made in Step
#1. See Diagram A on back of sheet. As you face the rear of the car, the front
tip of the Sportwing® will rest on the marks. Center the Sportwing® exactly
from left to right. Using a grease
pencil, outline both mounting feet.
Remove Sportwing® from the trunk.
3. Drilling holes for harness wires, set the Sportwing®
aside. Position the harness hole
template provided on the drivers’ side outline made in Step #2. Using a 5/32” drill bit, drill pilot hole
through the spot indicated for the wire harness. When drilling for the wire harness hole, drill through the first
panel only. Enlarge harness pilot hole
to 3/8”. We suggest using a uni-bit for
a cleaner cut.
4. Measure down 12” from the front corner of the trunk lid
where it meets the rear window glass and make a mark, see Diagram B on back
of sheet. Line up the fastening
hole template provided with the edge of the trunk at the 12” mark.
5. Drill 5/32” hole through the two (2) fastening hole
locations on the drivers’ side template.
Repeat this procedure on the passenger side by flipping template over (NOTE:
when drilling these holes, we insist using a drill stopper to prevent from
drilling into the rain channel. Only
extend drill bit ½” past the drill stopper when drilling these holes).
6. Remove the paper liner from the bottom of the mounting feet. Feed the brake light wires through the
harness hole made in Step #3 (NOTE: be careful not to crimp the brake
light wires as you position the Sportwing® for installation). Place the Sportwing® onto the
outline marks made in Step #2 and press firmly into place.
7. Open the trunk lid, using the same 5/32” drill bit (NOTE:
we insist using a drill stopper to prevent from drilling through the top of the
Sportwing®) only extend the drill bit 1” past drill
stopper. Holding onto the Sportwing®
while drilling, drill up through the two fastening holes per side that you made
in Step #5 up into the bottom of the mounting foot of the Sportwing®. Install self tapping mounting screws with
lock washers and tighten firmly using a ratchet with 5/16” socket. DO NOT OVER TIGHTEN. Repeat procedure on other side.
8. Feed the brake light wires of the Sportwing®
toward the drivers’ side trunk hinge.
Insert the Sportwing® brake light wires into the black
factory wire harness which runs from the deck lid into the inside of the
trunk. Next, run the Sportwing®
brake light wires to the third brake light and using the electrical
connectors provided, connect the red (hot) wire of the Sportwing® to
the yellow wire with gray stripe. Next,
connect the black (ground) wire of the Sportwing® to the black wire
with gray stripe. Test the connection
by stepping on the brake pedal.
9. Clean up any metal shavings that may have fallen into the
trunk. If you have any questions,
problems or if you would like information about other quality Sportwing®
products, please call the TOLL FREE number at the top of this sheet. Thank you for choosing Dawn Enterprises Inc.
